Propane Explosion - Emergency Response / Demolition / Hazmat Abatement / Chemical Waste Disposal
QMLP was retained by the city to commence hazardous asbestos removal from neighbouring properties and within the explosion site. The scope of the asbestos cleanup stretched over a 1 km radius. QMLP’s involvement at the explosion site included:
- Structural assessments of impacted building structures,
- Inspecting and depressurizing thousands of high pressure cylinders
- Providing 24/7site security, site access control and decontamination of personnel and equipment
- Demolition of various structures, segregation of materials to facilitate the Ontario Fire Marshall’s root cause investigation
- Containing site surface water runoff from the site.
- Waste packaging and disposal management
Through the various stages of this project QMLP produced job specific safety plans and procedures for completing the required work. The PPE requirements changed as the scope of the job evolved.
This project had the unique challenge of working with area residents still residing in their homes and with intense media, government, and regulatory scrutiny.
